The Benue State Police Command has apprehended three alleged armed robbers and recovered 34 mobile phones, three HP laptops, and two MP3 players from them.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Udeme Edet, the arrests occurred during a stop-and-search operation on August 31 at Orokam Junction along Obollo Afor Road. The suspects were identified as Mujahid Mohammed, 21; Yahaya Abdullahi, 21; and Kalipha Mohammad, 28, all residents of Mararaba and Nyanya in Abuja.
Edet stated that the suspects admitted to being part of an armed robbery gang that had been terrorizing communities in Orokam, Benue State, and several areas in Enugu State. They confessed to robbing six flats in the Umukasi Area and ten flats in the St Theresa Area of Nsukka, Enugu State. The suspects also revealed that their leader, 27-year-old Abba Mohammed, remains at large and escaped with the group’s weapons during the arrest.
The Benue Police Command is collaborating with law enforcement in Enugu and Gombe states to apprehend the fugitive ringleader. Investigations are ongoing to identify the owners of the recovered items.
Edet added that the Benue Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, commended the prompt actions of the patrol team and reaffirmed the command’s dedication to eliminating criminal activity in the state. The CP also urged residents to continue providing timely information to the police to help maintain public safety.
