Lagos, Nigeria – Dangote Refinery has reassured the public that there will be no fuel shortage despite the recent strike action by tanker drivers. The refinery’s spokesperson confirmed that operations are continuing smoothly, and the strike has not affected the supply of petrol to major depots and retail outlets across the country.
The tanker drivers, members of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), had initiated a two-day strike to press for improved working conditions and better remuneration. However, following discussions with the Federal Government, Dangote Refinery, and other stakeholders, the union agreed to suspend the strike, averting potential disruption in fuel distribution.
The refinery emphasized that it has ample reserves and logistical measures in place to ensure consistent fuel availability. By leveraging its extensive pipeline networks and alternative transportation arrangements, Dangote Refinery has been able to maintain deliveries even during industrial actions, ensuring that petrol stations remain stocked and motorists are not inconvenienced.
A spokesperson for Dangote Refinery said:
“We want to assure Nigerians that our operations continue as usual. The refinery is fully operational, and there is no cause for panic buying. Fuel supply across the country will remain stable, and our distribution channels are functioning effectively despite the temporary industrial action.”
Industry analysts noted that Dangote Refinery’s robust infrastructure and strategic planning have minimized the impact of industrial actions that in the past have led to shortages and long queues at petrol stations. The refinery’s ability to maintain supply during disruptions highlights its growing role in stabilizing Nigeria’s fuel market.
Consumers have been urged to remain calm and avoid panic purchasing, which can create artificial shortages. Dangote Refinery also appealed to other stakeholders in the petroleum sector to continue engaging in constructive dialogue to ensure uninterrupted fuel distribution and national energy stability.
This announcement comes at a critical time as Nigeria prepares for increased demand for petrol in the upcoming festive season, and the refinery’s assurance provides relief to motorists, businesses, and the general public.
