A fatal road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the life of one passenger and left nine others seriously injured.
How It Happened
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash occurred at about 6:55 a.m. on Saturday, near the inward New Garage axis of the busy highway.
The collision involved:
- A white Iveco truck (registration number MEK 34 XC)
- A white Toyota commercial bus (registration number ENU 814 XJ)
Preliminary findings indicate that speeding and road obstruction were the primary causes of the crash.
Casualties and Rescue Efforts
FRSC spokesperson Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola confirmed the casualties:
- One male passenger lost his life
- Nine others (eight males and one female) sustained injuries
- No passenger escaped unhurt
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene. The injured were evacuated to the Emergency Centre, Ojota, and Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo.
Traffic Restored
The crash initially disrupted traffic flow, but FRSC officials and police quickly cleared the vehicles. The MTD Police at Ojodu Abiodun Division have taken custody of the vehicles involved as investigations continue.
Road Safety Appeal
The FRSC has again urged motorists to shun speeding and reckless driving, especially on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which has witnessed several deadly accidents in recent years.
